Hockley Watermill, by Itchen river track, just off Church Lane, Twyford, Winchester, Hampshire, SO21 1NT
A chance to see a unique farm mill with a horizontal main shaft, 1880 replacement Poncelot buckets, two sets of stones plus all the original wheels and gears. The mill also powered a timber yard, thresher and other equipment in the barn. The latter now converted to housing.
Hampshire Mills Group will be on hand to answer questions and point out important features. Children have often learned about milling at school and both we and they really appreciate them telling us all about the mill.
Sunday 22 September: Open 1100-1600
No booking required
Booking is not required but when there are more than 10 people present it is not as easy to see the mill.
Depending on your interest, be prepare to stay from anything from 10minutes to staying all day The small lane which runs from north end of Church Lane down to river is steep and can be muddy, but there is room for parking (if neat) by the mill itself.
