Bretheren's Hall, St Cross Hospital, St Cross Road, Winchester, Hampshire. SO23 9SD
WARG, the society for Winchester archaeology and local history, will be in the Brethen's Hall showcasing previous digs, interactive displays and activities. WARG volunteers will also be available to talk about Brethen's Hall.
On the day we will set up our display boards on one of the trestle tables in the Brethren’s hall which will show photos and details of our previous digs, especially at St Cross Hospital and St Elizabeth’s College in Winchester. We will set up an area with a miscellaneous selection of finds from various digs and ask the public 3 questions, What am I? How Old Am I? and What Am I Made Of? This will then be reviewed with them so they can learn from the exercise.
Also in the Brethren’s hall we will set up a laptop and projector which will show a rolling presentation about WARG and what we do including photos and text. This will be set up in accordance to health and safety rules. The WARG members who will man the stand will also be able to talk to the public about St Cross Hospital and especially the Brethren’s hall and Kitchen area, explaining some of the history and events pertinent to the location.
We will have available for the public to take away previous versions of the WARG newsletter as well as some other leaflets detailing what we do. There will also be available a brochure which will be sold in aid of Myositis UK which will detail the history of Winchester Guildhall and pending agreement with St Cross a brochure for sale on their behalf detailing a brief history and the archaeology of the St Cross site.
We will also have on display several magazines relating to Archaeology in general.
