Tour starts from the Porters’ Lodge, Winchester College, College Street, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 9NA
This hour-long tour allows a rare opportunity to view two medieval rooms which house the school’s archives. Documents and artefacts relating to the school’s history, including the Foundation Charters and Founder’s Statutes, will be on display.
This is a fascinating tour of the college archives as well as an opportunity to see inside a medieval strong room. There is plenty of opportunity to ask questions of the College Archivist and to see the documents and artefacts close up.
Please note that access to both rooms is via spiral stone staircases - one of 36 steps and another of 52 steps. Please be aware that there are no handrails and sensible shoes are recommended.
