The Great Hall is the unique setting for Sir Walter’s Women, an original drama from 2TimeTheatre, looking at the life of Sir Walter Raleigh, & two extraordinary women who shared his love & encouraged his greatest adventures; his wife Bess & the Queen.
In the 400th anniversary year since the execution of one of England’s most complex heroes, Winchester-based theatre company 2TimeTheatre takes an intimate look at the life, legacy and spectacular fall from grace of Sir Walter Raleigh in their world premiere of Sir Walter’s Women.
Sir Walter, a charismatic adventurer, poet and occasional pirate, and was feared and revered in equal measure in his lifetime. This original drama, specially written to commemorate his execution, takes place in the unique and atmospheric setting of Winchester’s medieval Great Hall, the very place where Sir Walter stood trial and was found guilty of treason.
Performed by three actors in period dress, and accompanied by Renaissance music group, Courtlye Musik, the play will look at his personal, poetic and political life and the two extraordinary women who won his heart and encouraged his greatest adventures; his wife Bess and Queen Elizabeth.
2TimeTheatre has a reputation for creating original and exciting drama and had adapted, written and produced Venus and Adonis, Meeting Miss Austen and Jane Austen and the Waterman since its launch in 2016.
