Engaging with (Extraordinary) Medieval Queens - Workshop 2

The Grand Jury Room at The Great Hall, The Castle, Castle Avenue, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8UJ

This brilliant workshop, for children aged 7-11, will answer this question and more. Not only will you learn about the queen’s role and expectations of medieval queens , but you will find out what their lives were really like. PRE-BOOKING ESSENTIAL

Medieval queens were truly extraordinary women, both in terms of the unique position they held and their fascinating lives. This workshop for children aged 7-11 will give the participants an opportunity to engage with the lives of medieval queens, learning about the role they played in society, the expectations of their position and their individual experiences. This will be an interactive workshop, using a range of documentary materials and visual evidence from the Middle Ages which tell us about these extraordinary women and what their lives were like.

The workshop will be led by Dr Elena Woodacre, a Senior Lecturer in Early Modern European History at the University of Winchester and will be taking place in one of Winchester's few remaining medieval settings - The Great Hall.

The Great Hall is also open as part of Heritage Open Days. Members of family not booked on the workshop will be able to look round The Great Hall for free, and also visit the Extraordinary Women Exhibition and view the winning entries of our 'Arts & Words' Competition for local primary schools. There will be another workshop for those aged 12 to 16 years.
