Military Museums, Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8TS
There are six military museums located in Peninsula Barracks, Winchester. There will be free admission to all these museums on Saturday 15 September and Sunday 16 September as part of Heritage Open Days.
Winchester's Military Quarter located within the Peninsula Barracks is something rather unique since as well as the six museums, visitors can explore;
- The Largest collection of Victoria Crosses outside London -The Hampshires' memorial garden
- The Battle of Waterloo
- The devotion of soldiers to their horses
- The courage of the Gurkha soldiers -Women in the Army
- The Rifles today
Each museum is separately run and well worth a visit in its own right. A visit to Winchester’s Military Quarter during Heritage Open Days however provides a wonderful opportunity to visit all of them and enjoy an interesting ‘day out’. Additionally, there is a Visitor’s Centre with refreshments available at the on-site café 'Copper Joe's'.
