Oram's Arbour, Off Clifton Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO22 5BU
Love history? Then you will love this living history event with Tillier’s Regiment of the Sealed Knot - experience the camp & watch the drill displays (11am & 2pm) of a military unit of the English Civil Wars of the 1640s. You can even join in!
Be taken back by us to the 1640s and see what military life was like in and around Winchester at the time of the English Civil War. The war was fought between the King, Charles I and Parliament.
We will be at Oram's Arbour from 11am until 3pm, and you will be able to: Explore the camp, speak to the barber-chirugeon to find out how battlefield wounds were treated, handle facsimile coinage and see how much a soldier was paid each day , try writing with an ink pen, and smell what’s cooking on the fire. So why not come and experience history first hand?
At 11am and 2pm you can watch a drill display of pikemen, drums and colour and hear the musketeers fire their guns. Then take part in an interactive drill session and be shown how to handle the weaponry and march about as the latest recruits to the Winchester militia!
Find out how you can support our charity, the Sealed Knot, and more about our reenactments with the Hampshire Cultural Trust that we perform at Basing House and Winchester West Gate. Also hear about our plans for next year to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Cheriton. Plus you can find out how to join Tillier’s Regiment. We look forward to meeting you.
