God’s House Tower, Tower House, Town Quay, Southampton, Hampshire, SO14 2NY

This hour-long walk and talk by expert Dr Cheryl Butler will tell the story of our incredible 700-year-old building. You will hear about the creation of the building by the Normans, its use by pilgrims visiting the Maison Dieu and the Friary, GHT’s dark history as the Black Death’s entry point into England and its gruesome time as a prison for criminals en route to Australia.

The circular walk will start from outside GHT and finish inside the historic medieval building.

God’s House Tower is Southampton’s newest arts and heritage venue. Built to defend Southampton from attack 700 years ago, GHT has been transformed with a £3.1 million refurbishment project and now houses three new exhibition spaces, a cafe, shop and library.
