Hyde900: King Alfred's Last Journey - a guided, child friendly trail between the three burial sites of Alfred the Great

  • St Bartholomew's Church, King Alfred Place, Hyde, Winchester, Hampshire, SO237DF (map)

Solve the clues (guided by a Hyde900 volunteer), as you follow the trail from Winchester City Museum to Hyde Abbey - King Alfred's resting place and the location of Hyde900's Heritage Open Day events. Discover some fascinating facts along the way.

Meet a Hyde900 volunteer outside Winchester City Museum, and by following the clues, you will be able to follow in the steps of the 12th-century procession that carried King Alfred's coffin from New Minster to Hyde Abbey. This trail is designed principally for children, but adults will also discover some interesting historical facts along the way. There are more activities and events to explore when you arrive at your destination.

The trail can be combined with other Hyde900 events and offers an interesting route to Hyde900's base at St Bartholomew's church, where you'll find activities for adults and children: medieval tile making, seal making and much more (including refreshments and toilets!)
