Southampton’s annual multi venue music festival ‘MUSIC IN THE CITY’ this year takes place as part of Heritage Open Days. We have over 100 live performances taking place in heritage sites in the old town of Southampton on the weekend uniting heritage with performance.
St. Michael the Archangel Church is the oldest building still in use in the city dating from 1070. It is the only church still active of the five originally in the medieval walled town. It is not Grade I Listed.
St. Michael’s Church and Square is one of multiple different venues open especially for this event, all with their own unique character and atmosphere that will be elevated through live music performances.
the music is diverse, with something for everyone with 150 live performances being staged. At St. Michael’s on Saturday afternoon we will have the ever popular Rock Choir and the Woodfalls and Southampton’s Grad Brass bands as well as other choirs, dance performances and sets from DJs. On the Sunday afternoon we have classical performances from The City of Southampton Orchestra and the Clara Voces Chamber Choir in the atmospheric church, and also folk and dance from Southampton’s Greek & Cypriot Dance and Polyphonic Singing Group.
