Herbert Collins and his Southampton Houses

  • Market Buildings, High Road, Southampton, Hampshire, SO16 2HX (map)

An ideal opportunity to look at Herbert Collins's (1885-1975) architectural legacy in and around Southampton.

Herbert Collins (1885-1975) was a progressive architect at the forefront of the Garden City movement, living and working in Southampton for over fifty years.

Working with the Swaythling Housing Association, he produced an estate demonstrating the best of town planning for social housing development which is still accessible and highly desirable today. It clearly shows the features of Herbert's style in city development, with wide open green spaces and airy houses.
