Winchester Cathedral and the British Empire

Join us for a tour of Winchester Cathedral to explore the history of the British Empire through the art and language of memorials from this period.

This tour of Winchester Cathedral will explore how the British Empire was presented in the art and language of memorials during the 19th century. Visitors will be introduced to a range of notable types of memorial from the period and reflect on what we can understand about the British Empire from what we can see in the Cathedral. The tour, which will last between 45-60 minutes, will be followed by a 45-minute workshop with refreshments, to give visitors a chance to discuss the tour and ask questions.

Saturday 13th September: Session 1 at 10am-2pm, or Session 2 at 1pm-3pm

Directions: Please wait outside the front of the Cathedral opposite the War Memorial and a member of the team will meet you there.

Spaces can be transferred with notice of up to 48 hours in advance. Please wear comfortable walking shoes for the tour and notify us in your booking whether you have any access needs of which we should be aware.
