Guided History Tour of St. Mark Church Ampfield

  • St. Mark Church, Hampshire, SO51 9BU A3090, Ampfield, Romsey, Hampshire SO51 9BU United Kingdom (map)

An opportunity to look around this Keble Church containing some very interesting architecture, and also to be given a guided tour from a Historian who has co-written a book about the building.

St Mark Church was built in 1838-41 under the direction of Revd John Keble, then minister at the neighbouring parish of Hursley. Keble was a leading light in the Oxford Movement. He designed a church which tells the story of God alive and at work in the world with every brick. Every element of St Mark’s design: from the repeated groups of three steps, signifying the Trinity, to the conscious, if free copying, of medieval windows remains as a memorial to Keble’s intent. Equally, internally the design was equipped for a rich and sacramental worship. On the tour in and around the church you will not only see the rich architecture but learn about those who worshiped in the building over the past centuries.
