Home to an epic series of large-scale murals by the acclaimed artist Sir Stanley Spencer created to honour the ‘forgotten dead’ of the First World War. Visitors to Sandham can look forward to a rich programme of events throughout the day.
For 2025 Heritage Open Day there will be opportunities through the day to join an expert guide in the Chapel for an in depth look into Spencer’s paintings and experience poetry readings from First World War poets, read in this intimate setting.
Why not join a self-guided art activity and participate in the vintage tea cup taster workshop at 1:30pm. Enjoy a warm drink and biscuit in our tea room and perhaps take home a bag of heritage apples picked fresh from our orchard. Then come and look at the display of our local artists’ work, which was created as Sandham’s Blossom Painting event. Finally, you could take a quiet moment to sit and absorb the peaceful surroundings of the Chapel’s garden of reflection or picnic in the grounds.
