Peaceful green space by the river.
Follow the Keats Trail out of the city centre, the path is quite tight to the river, but there are benches and small grassy spots to lay a picnic blanket down. The route widens near The Hospital of St Cross where there are spots for a picnic.

We particularly recommend Kavi Coffee on Jewry Street, Cafe Monde in The Square, and Open House Deli on Middle Brook Street. All are independent Winchester businesses located close to the heart of the Festival and offer a warm welcome to visitors of all ages.
Pubs
Winchester is renowned for its historic pubs, many of which are independently owned and full of character. Whether you're looking for a leisurely lunch, a pint of local ale, or a place to unwind after a day of events, you'll find a warm welcome throughout the city centre.
We particularly recommend The Old Vine, beside Winchester Cathedral, The Black Boy near the River Itchen, and The Hyde Tavern in the historic Hyde district. Each offers a distinctive Winchester experience, excellent food and drink, and easy access from venues.

Just a short walk from the city centre, it is a popular choice for fresh sushi, bento boxes, and contemporary Japanese dishes, providing an excellent alternative for visitors seeking international flavours during their visit.

Many city centre restaurants can become busy during Festival periods, particularly at weekends, so advance booking is recommended where possible.
